08:00 Depart for Eceabat from Istanbul. There will be a comfort stop half way at a station/cafeteria, where you can buy snacks. Quick check in to accommodation. Lunch at a local restaurant & commencing Gallipoli tour. Drive to the Gallipoli Battlefields & ANZAC sites. 5 hour tour visiting:
• Kabatepe War Museum
• Beach Cemetery (John Simpson's grave)
• ANZAC Cove
• Ari Burnu - first ANZAC landing place
• Dawn Service Site – seeing the layout will give you an idea of where to head for good views
• Lone Pine - main Australian memorial
• Johnson's Jolly - walk in the original ANZAC & Turkish trenches & view the tunnels
• Turkish memorial
• The Nek - main scene depicted in the movie Gallipoli
• Chunuk Bair - main memorial for the New Zealand soldiers
24th April 2013, TUE - Gallipoli Peninsula
Free day in Eceabat until we depart for ANZAC Services.
19:00 Join the convoy of Backpackers Travel buses for departure to the Dawn Service site where we will grab a space in the large crowd & wait, listening to the pre dawn program.
25th April 2013, WED - ANZAC Day Services
05:30 Dawn Service commences as the sun breaks the skyline behind the Turkish Sphinx.
07:30 While waiting for your bus to transfer you to the next service you can eat breakfast at ANZAC Cove or feel free to tell your leader that you want to go exploring; take your breakfast pack & walk the ridges & old trenches to the next service. Australian &/or New Zealand National services. (Service times for these have yet to be released)
Lunch at restaurant back in town.
Late afternoon buses depart for Eceabat, where you will check into your accommodation, have a shower & a well-deserved sleep.
19:30 Screening of the Gallipoli movie.
26th April 2013, THU - Troy & Pergamum Tour - Selcuk or Kusadasi
After breakfast at hotel, check-out & drive to Troy. The Greek poet Homer wrote about the ancient city Troy in The Iliad. Troy is one of the world's most important archaeological sites because of its place in literature & what it tells us about a critical early period in the development of European civilization. The large replica of the Trojan horse at the front of the ruins, is part of the myth of the Trojan War. After the city of Troy we will proceed to Pergamum. The site of ancient Pergamum is set on a steep hilltop, the capital of Pergamum kingdom after the death of Alexander the Great was a cultural center having a large library rivaling that of Alexandria in Egypt. After the tour, we will drive apx. 2 hrs to reach Selcuk or Kusadasi. Transfer to hotel upon arrival. Optional: Check out & return transport to Istanbul.
27th April 2013, FRI - Ephesus Tour
After breakfast today we visit the Ancient City of Ephesus which is among one of the best preserved Greco-Roman Cities in the world enabling one to genuinely 'soak in' the atmosphere of Roman times. Enter through the Magnesia Gate & begin a slow, downhill walk with your guide into the ruins of this Roman provincial capital. After lunch, we depart to visit the House of Virgin Mary where she is said to be brought here by St. John & have spent the last of her days. The tour also includes a visit to the remains of Artemis Temple which was one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World & finally (time allowing) we visit Sirince, an old Greek Orthodox village most famous for its local wine, olive oil & 19th century architecture. Overnight Selcuk or Kusadasi.
28th April 2013, SAT - Aphrodisias & Pamukkale Tour
We will check out from hotel & drive for 1.5 hours to reach Aphrodisias. As its name implies, it was named after Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of Love. The city was built near a marble quarry, which was extensively exploited in the Hellenistic & Roman periods & sculptors of marble from Aphrodisias became famous in the Roman world. After lunch we will continue the day with visit to Pamukkale. This natural phenomenon leaves thick white layers of limestone & travertine cascading down the mountain slope, which resemble a frozen waterfall. There will be free time to walk on the terraces (where allowed). We then visit Hierapolis, the ruins of the ancient city cover more than a mile. Pamukkale overnight stay.
29th April 2013, SUN - Fethiye (Gulet Cruise)
After breakfast at hotel, check out & transfer toFethiye. Upon arrival you will be transferred to Fethiye Marina to embark on your gulet. Departure from Fethiye Harbour to Samanlik Bay for swimming & lunch or, depending on the sea conditions, to Butterfly Valley for lunch, a swim & optional visit of this natural reserve, hosting 136 kinds of different butterflies & moths. Afterwards we cruise to Oludeniz (The Blue Lagoon) again sea conditions permitting. Option for paragliding available. Last stop is St-Nicholas Island where the gulet will dock, dinner & overnight.
30th April 2013, MON - Kas - Kekova (Gulet Cruise)
Around sunrise departure to Aquarium or Firnaz Bay near Kalkan for breakfast & swimming. Cruising to Kas where we stop in the harbour for lunch & visit of this charming fishing village. Of ancient Antiphellos, as Kas was once known, only Lycian rock tombs & sarcophagi & the Roman theatre are left. But the charm of the town remains! In a bay near Kekova we stop for swimming, dinner & overnight.
01st May 2013, TUE - Kekova - Gokkaya (Gulet Cruise)
Breakfast. Departure to Sunken City of Kekova (this Lycian-Roman archaeological site is protected, so only looking!). Lunch. Simena, a traditional Turkish fishing village with no car access & Byzantine/Ottoman castle. In Gokkaya Bay optional water sports are available. Dinner, relax in this pirates haven or party the night away at the Smugglers Inn, dinner & overnight.
02nd May 2013, WED - Olympos (Gulet Cruise) / Olympos
After breakfast we continue to Pirates Cave for swimming, then disembark from Cayagzi (Andriake) Harbour after lunch. Transfer to Olympos with afternoon at leisure.
03rd May 2013, THU - Antalya
Depart in the morning to visit Perge, an important city of ancient Pamphylia, visited by St. Paul on his first missionary journey. The theatre stage has finely carved marble reliefs & other carvings from around the city are displayed in the stadium. Then proceed to Aspendos, which bears one of the best preserved Roman theatres in Asia Minor. After lunch by the river, we visit Side which is one of the best-known classical sites in Turkey. It was an ancient harbour, today Side is a pretty resort town with its ancient ruins, two sandy beaches & numerous tiny souvenir shops. The magnificent theatre of the ancient city, built on colonnaded arches, is the largest in the whole area. Other monuments include the Agora, the Temple of Apollo, which is situated near the sea, a fountain & Necropolis. Drive to Antalya for overnight stay.
04th May 2013, FRI - Konya - Cappadocia
Today is a long drive day but is broken up with a lunch break in Konya. This morning we drive to Konya & see the impressive Mausoleum & Museum of Mevlana, the mystic founder of the Islamic Sufi sect (Sufism is less an Islamic sect than a mystical way of approaching the Islamic faith). After the brief Konya tour we continue on to Cappadocia. Check in to hotel, overnight in Goreme.
05th May 2013, SAT - Cappadocia
We start our day with Uchisar, a natural rock citadel. Continue with Goreme Open-Air Museum, where the best preserved frescoed rock cut churches & monasteries are located. After lunch, we visit the family fairy chimneys of Urgup. Wine taste in a local winery & visiting the wishing hill in Urgup. A short walk in Devrent Valley where the rock formations look like different figures. The Monk's Valley will be our next stop where we see monk's cells in multi-capped Fairy Chimneys. After a short walk in Rose valley we will return to Goreme for overnight stay.
06th May 2013, SUN - Cappadocia
We'll pick you after breakfast & drive to Derinkuyu Underground City. A system of subterranean dwellings dug by the Hittites 4000 years ago & expanded by Christians fleeing from Roman persecution in the 6th & 7th centuries. We'll then continue to Ihlara Valley. There, we'll walk nearly 4 km & visit the frescoed churches along the cliffs & remote areas of this 14 km gorge. Lunch is in Ihlara Valley, at banks of Melendiz River. After lunch, we'll visit Selime Cathedral & on the way, we'll visit the Nar Crater Lake. Before returning to Goreme, en-route we'll see the Pigeon Valley where pigeon lofts were dug in the natural landscape where pigeons were used throughout centuries to deliver postal messages. Overnight in Goreme.

Check out from hotel & transfer to Nevsehir Airport for Istanbul flight. Transfer to hotel upon arrival. Overnight in Istanbul.
